Glimpses of the exotic, with the highest of quality finishes lie behind the door of a house in Pleydell Avenue in West London.
In at the start of the complete restoration of the 1930s semi-detached property, we were able to put their own stamp on the kitchen, bedrooms and bathroom. Effectively having a blank canvas to work with gave us the chance to create something truly unique, of the highest quality and stunning to look at. The whole house in Hammersmith was gutted, stripped bare, ready to be reborn with one-off features up and down.
Our director, Marc Hickey led the complete design of the kitchen with the client, steering the project from start to finish.
Stunning, dark Macassar ebony wood from South Africa was used for kitchen units and the totally unique, one off A-symmetrical shelving in the living room is also made in this darkest of exotic hardwoods and set off beautifully against a pale wall.
As a distinctive and rare wood, it is grown on plantations in the tropical climate of South Africa where it thrives to be used in bespoke projects such as Pleydell Avenue. Its striking and unusual grain pattern catches the eye and gives it a high-end appeal. The A-symmetrical shelving is a signature of Marc’s work, striking in its shaping and ready to complement anything placed upon it.
More exotic hardwood is found in the bathroom in the form of a veneer of Tamo Ash from Japan. It seems to possess a holographic grain to it, adding an extra dimension to its character, a joy to look at. And in the bedroom the stylish wardrobe with walnut surround is perfect for the look of the bedroom.
Three months from first taking on the entire £100,000 joinery project for Pleydell Avenue, Creative woodwork had worked their magic. The high-class finishes on all the work made possible by the sheer quality of the wood used and a vision to create something beautifully unique and one of a kind.
