We get a lot of calls about fitting alcove units around chimney breasts, but this case became particularly interesting when the client, based in Chiswick, West London, mentioned she also wanted a drinks cabinet in the dining room. We were able to conceive a unique solution with a drinks preperation area that unfolds from the alcove unit on the left without losing the the natural symmetry of the room.
The bar in this bespoke alcove unit is a drop down flap on push catches. Naturally, we used a soft mechanism and the lighting is activated via a trigger catch. The glass shelves are Pilkington Optiwhite which preserves the colour purity of the light, while below the bar we fitted out the drawer carcasses with a velvety finish to protect the silverware.
For the finish on this bespoke alcove unit we opted for a profile edge instead of handles (although we do like handles – check out this guy’s work). We were also able to blend the units into the room by colour matching the panels to the existing wall colour. We even took the Bo Concept table’s cue on the dark stain oak. Who says we’re perfectionists?
